How Will You Make A Difference On America Recycles Day?

America Recycles Day is Nov. 15, and there are so many great ways to get involved. Now that more and more people are getting involved in the green movement, it’s only getting easier to get other people excited about recycling, and the best way is to lead by example. This year, host or attend an America Recycles Day event near you to encourage other people to make earth-friendly decisions that will benefit future generations to come.

Attend An Event

This year, there are already 1,515 America Recycles Day events registered throughout the U.S. There are plenty of options available, but you can also organize your own event if you have another idea in mind. Event categories include public awareness, education, and outreach events, collection events, college tailgate recycling events, and media events. America Recycles Day events are fun and rewarding. Find an event near you and get registered!

If you’re planning on organizing your own event, there are plenty of posters and signs available for use at your event. Find those great toolkits here.

Find Recycling Sites

Recycling can be difficult when you don’t know which items are recyclable or where you can take them. America Recycles Day is a great time to learn more about where items can be recycled. The America Recycles Day website has a great Recycling Locator for finding recycling locations for items such as plastic bags, plastic jugs, clothing, cell phones, computer parts, electronics, refrigerators, and more.

The current recycling rate is only 34.5 percent, and America Recycles Day is a great time to pledge to recycle more, reduce personal waste, and encourage other people to do the same. Help to spread the word across social media by entering the “I Will Recycle” sweepstakes. Simply take and post a photo of yourself recycling. Include #Iwillrecycle to be entered into the sweepstakes.

Recycle Your Car

Even though food waste is a major problem in America, recycling and reusing isn’t limited to the kitchen. In addition to recycling more household items and reducing waste, you can also recycle your car. Keep your vehicle out of the landfill by recycling your car through the Wheels For Wishes car donation program. Your car donation helps to benefit your local Make-A-Wish chapter, and you also get a great tax deduction.

When you donate a car, truck, boat, or motorcycle through Wheels For Wishes, your vehicle will either be auctioned off and reused by a new owner, or it will be recycled and reused to build new vehicles. Vehicle recycling extends the lifecycle of your vehicle, and helps to grant the wishes of kids with life-threatening medical conditions. It’s a win-win for all!
