Polar Vortex are two words that almost everyone is tired of hearing. Between the snow that has crippled the South this season already and record-low temperatures, who isn’t ready for spring? Unfortunately, people in the Northeast have been dealing with another blast of winter.
Winter Storm Nika left nearly 900,000 people without power in Pennsylvania due to snow and freezing rain snapping branches and power lines, this after Winter Storm Maximus pounded much of the country and closed schools in New York and the New Jersey area earlier in the week. There have been 14 named winter storms already this year, according to the National Weather Service, and it’s only early February.
More snow is forecast for the northeastern part of the United States this weekend, including the dreaded “wintery mix” of snow and rain that starts at Washington, D.C., and goes all the way up the coast to Boston. It may not be the 30-inches of snow that was reported early on, but there is a growing likelihood that more snow will pummel the Northeast. Clearly, for almost the entire country, winter can’t end soon enough.
